The Rough Draft for April 2021

FCC Board Meeting

April 7th, 2021

location TBD

(info to follow)

The Prez Sez:

Spring has sprung, and it’s time to really get out and ride (especially if you have been taking the winter off).

As the County of Fresno enters the Red Tier, it should allow us to get back to more organized bicycle events. Over the past year, we have had to restrict the Club rides to small groups, and have had to cancel or postpone Club-sponsored events.

As more folks get vaccinated and the level of illness from Covid subsides, we are hoping to get back to more Club-sponsored activities. Although most of our annual events have been pushed into late summer and early fall, we plan to get a lot of riding opportunities for club members on the calendar.

The Rough Draft

April 2021

Your Membership Renewal Date:

Ride Leader Al Graves (who was the Ride Director for the Annual Coalinga Century rides from Coalinga College), has scheduled a Club ride for all who want to join for April 17th, 2021.  All club members are invited to participate in this unsupported ride.

  • Saturday, April 17, 2021, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
  • Harris Ranch Inn and Restaurant, 24505 W. Dorris Avenue/Hwy 198, Coalinga, CA.

This ride will feature two options, for which physical route sheets will be provided  (this information is also on the Ride Calendar):

HALF METRIC: is approximately 32 miles in length and will involve 995 feet of climbing. Restroom facilities will be available at mile 14, on the grounds of the West Hills College rodeo facility. From the rodeo grounds, all riders will ride another 18 miles back to Harris Ranch Inn and Restaurant over flat, two-lane roads.

The METRIC is approximately 61 miles in length and will involve 2,320 feet of climbing. METRIC riders will turn R at the junction of Derrick Avenue and Los Gatos Canyon Road and ride to Los Gatos Park and back, for a total of 26.3 extra miles and 1,500 additional feet of climbing.

  • ALL RIDERS should bring plenty of food and beverage.
  • Restroom facilities and water should be available at the Park, but there are no guarantees.
  • There will be no formal rest stops at which food and drink are provided. SAG will be provided by volunteers Bill Asselin and Ken Herrington. Many restaurants and fast-food facilities are located at or near the junction of I-5 and Hwy 198.
For further information: Al Graves, 559-284-0787 (cell) or

Please adhere to accepted Covid-19 protocols when in a group or when entering a business along the route.

If you plan attending this annual Club event, be sure to register at , so Ride Leaders Janet and Jim Lucido will know how many people will be riding. If you have never done this ride it is a lot of fun. It is a slower paced, casual ride but it is one of the most scenic rides you can imagine. You ride down the coast from Pacific Grove to Carmel.

The group generally has lunch in Carmel, then takes one of 2 options for the return trip.  One retraces the same route along 17 Mile Drive, the other takes a more challenging route with more climbing involved and ends up on the trail near the Monterey Wharf. From there the route follows the trail along the ocean beach out toward Fort Ord.

The shorter route is around 35-40 miles, and the longer route is about 50 miles, depending on how far you wish to go.

Check the Ride Calendar on the Club website for current and future Club sponsored Rides. Don’t just think Road Rides, our members are into gravel riding and mountain biking as well.

  • For Gravel Rides check out the FCC All-Roads Riders and Friends ride group on Facebook, as well as the Ride Calendar.
  • Our friends at CCORC (Central California Off-Road Cyclists) has a Facebook presence where they post all their Mountain Bike rides.

The Climb to Kaiser - the status at this time is uncertain, and the hope is that it can be scheduled for a date later than the original date, for sometime in July or August. The C2K is not like our other events. There are permits that have to be obtained, permissions granted, reservations made, and it is very expensive  to put on each year. So, it has to be done with the idea of being able to at least break even on our expenses and ideally make some money for our advocacy and support efforts. I would like to form a C2K committee of enthusiastic members willing to help with the planning, organizing and carrying out the duties it takes to put on the C2K. If you’re interested, please contact me at as soon as possible.

The Grizzly Century is scheduled for Saturday Oct 2, 2021. Planning is underway for this great event, headed up this year by Club member Tony Inderbitzin. If you’re interested in helping out with this event, contact Tony ( or myself.

The Kirch Flat Century was rescheduled again for August 21, 2021.

The Tour de Femme is scheduled for Oct 23, 2021.

The Everyone Loves Raymond Gravel event is scheduled for Nov 6th, 2021.

Looking forward to seeing you at Biking w the Police event at Clovis West Parking Lot at 9 am Saturday April 10th, 2021.

Any members that have bicycles or related items they want to offer for sale can do so on our Facebook Group FCC All things Bicycling Sell, Buy or Trade.

The Prez: Dennis Ball

If you’re looking for rides, be sure to check out the FCC Ride Calendar. We have various Ride Groups regularly having rides to help you get out and get some exercise. You've got to keep those riding legs, heart and lungs in shape.

Local Bike Shops and Other Friends

For many of us, eating and riding are the two major things in life.  We all rely on and support our local bike shops.  These are the people dedicated to making sure that we can all safely enjoy what we do.  A few local restaurants and other supporters go out of their way to accommodate cyclists.  Please be sure to support these folks, and tell them you are an FCC Member!
