Updates from the Fresno Cycling Club!

The Prez Sez:

Greetings fellow members and passionate bicyclists.

I hope this edition of the Rough Draft Prez Sez finds you in good health.  You should all be aware by now that we are experiencing something that has not ever happened in most of our lifetimes. The Covid-19 or Corona Virus Pandemic is bringing a sickness and death with such speed that it is considered extremely dangerous. We have experienced viruses in the past but nothing that has caused the government to take the drastic actions that we are seeing these days. The shelter-in-place orders have touched us all. It has been a best effort to avoid as many deaths and illnesses as possible in our cities, states and country. We can only hope for the best of outcomes.

As we all try to cope with this unknown as best we can, we can be thankful that as bicyclists we can still enjoy our favorite mode of exercise and enjoyment. Those of us who have been getting out to ride have been making every effort to either ride on our own, or if riding with others to maintain the recommended social distancing. We still want to stay safe. If you get out to ride, be extra cautious to not get injured: our hospitals and medical personnel already have plenty to deal with.

It is unfortunate that we have had to reschedule or cancel some of annual events and put our daily ride calendar on hold until further notice. So far:

  • The Ride Calendar is on HOLD until further notice,
  • the Kirch Flat has been rescheduled to September 5th,
  • the First Annual Tour de Femme will be postponed until 2021,
  • at this time, the C2K - Climb to Kaiser is still on track for June 27th, but we are monitoring the situation very closely,
  • Other changes are possible as we work through this.

As soon as this is over and it is safe to have group events, we hope to put on an “All-Club Ride” that we can all enjoy together.

Next month is Bike Month. It remains to be seen exactly what we will be able to do come May. The Shelter in Place decree has been extended through April 30 as of now.

   Remember to:

  • stay safe,
  • keep your distance from others, since with this virus people can be carriers and not have symptoms,
  • wash your hands often,
  • wash down surfaces that others touch before you touch them, i.e. shopping carts, gas pump handles and the like.

Hope to see you all on the road sooner than later. Be safe.

Ride on!

The Prez,  Dennis Ball

DURING THE CURRENT SHELTER-IN-PLACE

For many of us, eating and riding are the two major things in life.  We all rely on and support our local bike shops.  These are the people dedicated to making sure that we can all safely enjoy what we do.  A few local restaurants and other supporters go out of their way to accommodate cyclists.  Please be sure to support these folks, and tell them you are an FCC Member!
